Gok Wan - How To Look Good Naked

I am not sure if this show is ever on free to air TV here in Australia. But it is on the Lifestyle Channel.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE IT

Gok Wan presents the inspirational fashion series that shows women how to look fantastic
with their clothes on or off no matter what their body shape

I am not sure if I have ever cried with so much joy and empathy at a TV show, ever.

(His articles are also superb - so simple, such simple tricks to ease us into more confidence.)

For me, a healthy lifestyle, well fitting knickers and a vaguely consistent beauty routine keep my confidence high when it comes to stripping off. Regardless of my weight or size. Shaved legs and exfoliated skin just make me feel better.

If I am feeling crap, I drink some water, have an apple, and make a mental note to make time soon, to have a long pamper of a shower to exfoliate, de-fuzz and moisturise. Maybe it is even the time alone, sans kids, that re-energises me?

At the moment, thankfully, I am feeling good. My nails are OK. My weight is stable. My skin is coming out of that grey winter stage. Hair colour is a little grey but I have a date to fix that. I am feeling like I am getting enough sleep. I am practising how to relax. I quite like myself. I'd even go as far as to say I feel a little bit goddess like!

But tell me, what do YOU do, for yourself, to look good naked?

  1. Sadly, I try to avoid this at all costs! I should check out his show. You know, Lucy, I have seen some Fat to Fits around, and it must feel so good to have had such an influence!

  2. Defuzzing & exfoliating definitely make me feel a million times better as well, I never feel like bothering in winter, I wonder if that's where the winter blues come from??

  3. Thanks Kristy. I am not so sure about the influence, but if other women are feeling able to start and stick to a healthy journey, then I am so so so glad. Thank you! xx

  4. I love this show, the one with Gok, not the one with Carson ew, it's one of the things I miss about not having pay TV anymore... what were we thinking getting all high & mighty & getting rid of it... anyway...

I'm with you defuzzing, exfoliation and a little light tanning lotion, just to take the edge of the pasty glow in the dark skin. I also keep my toe nails coloured with polish. I also dry & straighten my hair every day, even if I'm just at home, it helps me feel good about myself.

Roll on warm weather I say.

Nope! I look good with clothes on!!! Clothes keep all the bits sucked in. Once the clothes come off...FLOP! High knickers helps though! I have a bit of loose skin, particularly my inner thighs, so until that diminishes, I don't think I will be comfortable naked, or in underwear, or bathers. But working on it! Thankfully, we wear clothes in our society! I am happy knowing I look better then I used to, and that I feel good for the first time ever with my body and get to wear nice clothes, clothes that make me look good. One step at a time!

  6. I think the key to looking good naked is to just get out there and strut your stuff! No matter what my weight has been, I've never shied away from acting like I'm the hottest stuff on the planet. And LOML seems to agree.

The other secret is that I never complain or fret about my body in front of him. If he thinks I look great then I'm not going to tell him any different! x

  7. i haven't seen it much but i like that show, did you have the 'normal women' Dove commercial here too ?
i think the media should stop showing so many Barbies or wannabes and focus on how most women actually look - because Mr Average doesn't have much illusions about his body either.
While I agree that taking care of your body and dessous are a good way to feel better, when i stand in front of the mirror those kilos make me feel bad, i strike a pose!
if you just stand there like posing for a medical book, only the skinny bitches look halfway decent. love yourself a little more, vogue and you'll see you'll look waaaay better !

  8. I agree. i will even pose in front of the mirror until it give me back a body image i can live with, and then i'll shake it better on the outside.
this said, given my last post, my self esteem can be rocked by 4 yo barbies apparently, lol..

  9. I think confidence has a great deal to looking good naked. I like to Take the time to exfoliate, defuzz, moisturise, paint my nails and put on something sexy. I also like to dress up even if I'm popping to the shops. Since earlier inthe year when I went naked (without makeup for a week) I've been able to look past what I look like in the mirror and be confident in myself and how I feel rather than how I look.
If you think you look good and feel sexy then you will ooze it!
Lucy you are goregous and confident woman keep up the great work! Btw fat to fit is awesome meme and I'll paticipste in it forever!

Oh I LOVE Gok. He's just brilliant and shows that no matter what - everyone is spectacularly beautiful, sometimes it just takes them a while to realise it.

  12. It is so easy to forget the simple things that make you feel better, like a haircut or a good bra. Thanks for this little reminder. I'm going to have me a nice bath this evening and defuzz the legs!

  17. Oh lovely! Love the confidence that a toned muscle brings!

  18. Standing naked in front of the mirror, then telling my self that "I am Beautiful".

I also love to keep my nails trimmed and painted. Toes that are nice looking make me feel sexy no matter what my size is at the moment.

  19. Oh I hear you on the toes! My toe nail polish gets scraped from playing in the swimming pool with the kids so a saturday evening treat with my two little girls is often a home-style pedicure!

I cringe at the word naked so basically, I'm just keeping my clothes on. I haven't watched this show but now I want to!

I like this post! :) I defuzz, use a bit of fake tan, try to keep my nails and toenails neat & polished and have my roots re-done. I must say though, a good jog and some strengthening exercises do help to immediately make me feel better naked - even posture-wise.

  23. I love these articles -- I had saved the post so I could read it when I had some time...
I'm loving it!! Such great tips (except for the fake tan bit... as I'm pale and i love being pale!!)

  24. Generally shaving makes me feel good. And a good exfoliation routine. I can ignore my bruises and my stupid bendy joints if I've got shaved legs that feel smooth.

  25. I would have to say not eating crap food makes me feel good naked, just knowing I haven't put anything crappy in there. And running, definitely running. I joked the other day that my new mantra was going to be: Running makes you look good naked! Kinda catchy don't you think? ;)

  26. I'd really recommend listening to Gok on Desert Island Discs on Uk's radio 4 if you can still find it on the internet. he is amazing.

  27. Oh, Desert Island Discs. That makes me feel a little homesick! Off for a hunt now: thank you so much!

I do not look good naked *shudder*, in fact I hate being naked. In fact I'd even shower with my swimsuit on if it didn't make me seem like a freak lol Maybe one day I'll get sexy semi-nude pictures done or something, then I'll really know I've come to love my body

  29. Some people need coffee in the morning to deal with day ahead, I need exfoliating shower time to give me my kick start to the day. It means I have had my five minutes.

  31. I don't do naked. Not so soon after giving birth anyway, everything is still all wobbly and jiggly. But as a makeup artist I feel I have to put on makeup every day - not a full face of going out makeup, just a little bit. Most of the time people can't tell I've got any on, but it makes me feel a bit more confident.

  32. Rarely look at myself naked to be honest. Having three beers is a great thing NOT to do before you stand in front of the mirror naked though. That I can tell you. #bloat ;0
