How the hell does she manage it?

OK, here goes.

I am not bitching here, I am observing.

So bear with me.

We go to swimming lessons with the kids every Saturday morning. Come rain or shine, hungover or not, we have all three kids in lessons every Saturday morning. We go early, so that the five of us can all get in the pool together first, to swim together, and to play.

And every Saturday, we see a similar range of parents. One lady in particular.

She is a classic blonde.

She is beautiful.

Her hair is always perfect (despite the humidity poolside.)

Her make up is always glowing and utterly immaculate.

Her clothes are classy and chic......fitted outfits and divine shoes. Beautiful subtle jewellery.

I pass her every single week. As I drag my three kids in, me in my trackies and my thongs, face totally scrubbed, hair scraped back, she is sitting there, composed and together, legs crossed, at the side of the pool, with poise and grace.

Every week, I think to myself "Fuck me, how the hell can she look so bloody good every single week?Always so gorgeous and well put together? How does she manage it?"

She is tall, with a toned size 10 body all over, and cheekbones to die for.

Bitching? Me? Nope. Jealous? Me? YES! I want to be a super mummy that looks that damn good!

Actually, it is not her figure I am envious of, so much, it is her overall togetherness. Everything just looks so.........well........right.

This weekend just gone, our three kids had run ahead, and lovely husband and I were sauntering in together.

We passed her.

Under my breath, I said to him "How does that Mum do it? The blonde? I see her every week. She always looks so damn perfect?! How the hell does she manage it?"

Lovely husband didn't even pause for breath.:

Lucy, my love, she is not here to swim or have splashy fun with her kids. She doesn't dare dive in and play mermaids with her daughters on her back underwater. She probably watches you playing with the kids every week and asks herself the very same thing......"How the hell does she manage it?"

And THAT is one of the MANY reasons I adore my lovely husband so much.

  2. What a lovely hubby you have! We ALL get bouts of jealousy like that, so it's great that you have someone there to whack you over the head and remind you that there's nothing to be jealous about xx

  10. I used to share a house with one of those. No big secret, she used to get up at some ungodly hour to attend to the clothes/makeup.

I will trade an extra hour of sleep and wear trackies than commit to THAT!

  19. Aw... what a sweetie!

I was looking at Naomi Watts in some red carpet pics the other day and was envying her just like your pool-side-blonde. I was thinking that at 41 (!!!) she looks better and younger than I do at 28! *sigh*

But then, I was at the hairdressers (first time since bubs was born) and reading an article about 'THE latest skin care creams'... some of which were $900 a jar! And I realised, sure Naomi may look great, but she probably uses cream like this daily... (or something even more expensive)... and she probably does not get up to her baby four times a night... she she no doubt has a cleaner... a trainer... a pilates instructer... someone to mind her kids so she can exercise daily... regular visits to a top-class day spa.... and so on and so forth.

Anyway, I suspect that at the very least a cleaner, a jar of expensive cream, and child-minding is behind the illusion of the pool-side-blonde.

'A life without adventure is a life of nothing' Lucy. Don't envy her as she watches from the poolside instead of diving in like you:)

  24. What a gorgeous husband you have!

And look - no doubt she's up an hour before she really has to be to look that way. Some choose to do that because it makes them feel better about themselves, and that's fine! We all do what we have to do.

But to be honest, I'd rather spend that extra hour in bed, having gorgeous cuddles with my hubby and my kids. That's just me.

    Great post, hon! xxx

That made me quite emotionality, what a lovely husband you have. I would rather be splashing and playing any day rather than sat on the side watching.

Your hubby is a keeper. We all put the effort into the things we care most about. She cares about being together. You care about a whole range of other things, and being together with your family.

Thanks for Rewinding at the Fibro!
